What is EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and How It Can Help You

EFT, Emotional Freedom Technique is one of my favourite energy modalities to use with clients.

In short, EFT is an alternative treatment dealing with emotional distress and blocks, and it can be used for physical pain.

Emotional Freedom Techniques is a form of counselling intervention that draws on various theories of alternative medicine including acupuncture, neuro-linguistic programming, energy medicine, and Thought Field Therapy. Wikipedia

Coaches and energy workers who use this technique believe tapping the body can create a balance in your energy system and treat pain and emotional distress. According to its developer, Gary Craig, a disruption in energy is the cause of all negative emotions and pain.

Though still being researched, EFT tapping is used to treat people with anxiety and people with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

EFT Therapy: The Definition

EFT is an energy psychology method; that relies on the principles of the ancient Chinese alternative medicine and more specifically, acupressure.

With EFT Therapy, you can tap on a series of points around the body with one or two fingers while repeating a phrase – affirmation – devised with your coach to help provide therapeutic healing that may have taken years with other methods. 

Your body tends to store up past emotional problems. When this emotional form of acupressure is utilised on the body’s meridian energy points or Qi (pronounced Chi), the pent up emotional energy can then be released. If this seems too good to be true, you can refer to the testimonials of countless past users who’ve described it as life-altering.

The beauty of EFT is the ability to provide almost instant healing. Many would have you believe that traditional conversational therapy is required in order to heal emotional problems truly; however, you can achieve excellent results even with online-based EFT systems – I provide EFT sessions with clients over Zoom; where I show them where to tap, and we tap together.

Some common issues EFT Therapy has solved:

  1. Insomnia and Anxiety. These two problems often go hand in hand. By completing one session of EFT, you can find yourself to be free of both, and you’ll gain confidence, which will reduce the occurrence of both anxiety attacks and insomnia.
  2. Phobias. Phobias can vary from minor and relatively harmless, to major ones that interfere with daily life. EFT has been known to erase even debilitating phobias in a matter of hours.  I spent hundreds of pounds on hypnotherapy and advance driving courses to help me understand why I lacked confidence with driving. Just one round of EFT and I no longer suffer! I am not as confident as a Formula 1 driver, don’t get me wrong, but I am much more at ease behind the wheel.
  3. Anger. Anger management can also become more manageable with help from EFT therapy. Repressed anger is a common pent up emotion that can easily be released with EFT.
  4. Addiction and Weight Loss. EFT therapy can be used on all kinds of habits, from alcohol and drug addiction to excessive eating. This form of therapy can make dealing with cravings more bearable and – in some situations – the cravings can disappear entirely. 

The Mind/Body Connection

No matter what kind of therapy you engage in, you may begin to notice mind and body connections. Mental conditions, such as stress can take toll on the body.

Stress can cause all sorts of problems, including:

  • Backaches
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue
  • Discomfort

Once your stress has been relieved, you may also notice that these physical symptoms fade as well. Those who have engaged in EFT Therapy method undergo simple procedures and then find that their physical symptoms vanish without having to endure longer or more emotionally painful treatments. 

Like most things in life, EFT Therapy is not fail-proof.  It is not a surprise that modern science dismisses anything that falls under alternative medicine, this includes emotional freedom techniques are well.

To this day there is no medical proof that can back up the existence of meridians or acupressure points in the human body; and yet there are numerous reviews of acupressure, acupuncture and EFT from thousands of satisfied patients and clients who have found these alternative methods life-changing; including myself.
